Nifty Gateway, the non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace has announced that the company has partnered with the electronics giant Samsung. The two firms have been working on the “first-ever smart TV NFT platform” and Nifty Gateway is already integrated into Samsung’s 2022 premium TV product lines.

NFT Marketplace Nifty Gateway Partners With the Electronics Giant Samsung

During the first week of January, the electronics company Samsung revealed it was getting into non-fungible token (NFT) technology and NFTs would be introduced into the company’s TV products. At the time, Samsung didn’t get into too many details except that it would offer the first smart television product line with NFT capabilities.

Now just over two months later, the Gemini-owned Nifty Gateway NFT marketplace announced that it has partnered with Samsung. The partnership is meant to “develop the first-ever smart TV NFT platform for exploring, purchasing, and trading digital art and collectibles.” According to the press release, Nifty Gateway is already integrated into Samsung’s 2022 premium TV product lines, which include the QLED and Neo QLED smart TVs.

“Leveraging Samsung’s and Nifty Gateway’s technology, customers can seamlessly browse, display, and interact with NFTs from the comfort of their couch,” Nifty Gateway’s announcement details. “In addition, customers will have access to more than 6,000 art pieces from emerging and top artists including Beeple, Daniel Arsham, Pak, and more.”

Duncan Cock Foster, the co-founder of Nifty Gateway further detailed during the announcement that Nifty Gateway aims to bring NFTs to “a billion people.”

“We are committed to making NFTs accessible and NFT purchasing more seamless than ever before,” the Nifty Gateway executive remarked. The NFT marketplace co-founder further added:

With our mission in mind, we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Samsung to develop a groundbreaking NFT collecting experience. Their dedication to user experience and focus on the highest quality displays aligns perfectly with our vision to allow anyone, anywhere, to interact with their favorite creators.

Foam Shoe Giant Crocs Files NFT and Digital Collectibles Trademark Application

According to a recent trademark application, Crocs, the American shoe company based in Colorado may be delving into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Since 2004, Crocs has sold 300 million pairs of foam clog shoes and the application describes a protocol that can manage and store digital collectibles.

Crocs Trademark Filing Describes ‘Downloadable Virtual Goods Created With Blockchain Technology, Smart Contracts, in the Nature of Footwear’

A United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) report filed on January 11, 2022, indicates that Crocs has an eye on the non-fungible token (NFT) industry. The company Crocs is well known for its injection-molded foam clogs since the firm secured exclusive rights to the proprietary foam product called Croslite in 2004.

The USPTO report shows a product that is entirely different from foam clogs. The “registration is intended to cover the categories of downloadable digital media namely, digital assets, digital collectibles, digital tokens, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs),” the Crocs trademark filing notes. It further continues by mentioning things like leveraging blockchain tech and smart contracts in order to showcase Crocs’ products. The filing adds:

[The registration is intended to cover] downloadable virtual goods created with blockchain-based software technology and smart contracts, in the nature of footwear, clothing, bags, accessories, and charms for decorating footwear, clothing, bags, and accessories; Downloadable computer software for creating, managing, storing, accessing, sending, receiving, exchanging, validating and selling digital assets, digital collectibles, digital tokens and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In terms of sales, Crocs are not as popular as they once were during the first few years they were introduced and in 2010, TIME magazine added Crocs to the world’s “50 Worst Inventions.” Crocs, however, are still worn by celebrities like Nicki Minaj, Kim Kardashian, and Justin Bieber. While the trademark indicates an interest in securing the rights to NFT-based Crocs’ intellectual property (IP), the company has not mentioned anything about leveraging NFTs in recent times.

Meanwhile, a slew of well known brands from all around the world have been jumping into the world of NFTs. Popular brands such as Adidas, Budweiser, Hennessy, Arizona Iced Tea, Samsung, Ubisoft, Konami, Bicycle, Pepsi-Cola, Atari, and Delorean.

Smart TVs and NFTs Collide: Samsung Introduces World’s First Television-Based NFT Platform

The well known electronics giant Samsung, the manufacturer of LCD and LED panels, laptops, mobile phones, memory chips, and televisions, revealed that the firm’s upcoming smart TVs will incorporate non-fungible token (NFT) technology.

Samsung Reveals Smart TV With NFT Capabilities

One of the largest electronics manufacturers worldwide, Samsung Electronics, has noticed how popular NFTs are today and the company believes there’s something needed to view these digital artworks. The U.S. Samsung Newsroom published a summary of the company’s latest lineup of MICRO LED, Neo QLED, and Lifestyle TVs with “cutting-edge personalization options.”

The NFT description is toward the end of the announcement which explains that “Samsung’s 2022 Smart TVs come with a new Smart Hub.” In addition to features like the “Gaming Hub,” “Watch All,” and an NFT Platform. “This application features an intuitive, integrated platform for discovering, purchasing and trading digital artwork through MICRO LED, Neo QLED and The Frame,” Samsung’s announcement details.

Samsung also spoke about the NFT Platform with the news publication The Verge as the company said it has noticed the popularity of NFT technology. The electronics giant says the new TVs will be the first of their kind with an NFT explorer and market.

“With demand for NFTs on the rise, the need for a solution to today’s fragmented viewing and purchasing landscape has never been greater. In 2022, Samsung is introducing the world’s first TV screen-based NFT explorer and marketplace aggregator, a groundbreaking platform that lets you browse, purchase, and display your favorite art — all in one place,” Samsung said.

Samsung’s entry into the world of NFTs has come as a great number of well known brands and celebrities have jumped on the NFT bandwagon. Last year, single NFTs sold for multi-millions in crypto-assets and a number of NFT projects have gathered billion-dollar market caps.

Samsung to Aid Bank of Korea in Central Bank Digital Currency Pilot Program

16/08/2021 by Idelto Editor

samsung

Samsung, the Korean tech giant, has decided to participate in a central bank digital currency (CBDC) program that is being carried out by the Bank of Korea. The company will be testing the feasibility of using these new instruments in its lineup of Galaxy phones, specifically assessing the possibility of making offline payments between peers.

Samsung Participates in Korean Digital Currency Pilot

Samsung, the Korean technology behemoth, has agreed to aid the Bank of Korea in running a test pilot for a central bank digital currency that will assess the feasibility of using these instruments in the payments sector. The pilot started in July, co-managed by the Bank of Korea and Ground X, a blockchain affiliate of Kakao, the messaging platform.

The news was announced by a Samsung executive, who stated:

Samsung Electronics has recently decided to participate in the BOK-led CBDC pilot project, under which interested parties will research the practicalities of the CBDC in a test environment.

While the governor of the Bank of Korea, Lee Ju-yeol, has had a negative view of cryptocurrencies due to the volatile nature of their prices, the bank nonetheless has decided to run this pilot project to examine the value of digital asset instruments to modernize banking structures.

Offline Payments

The involvement of Samsung in the pilot will involve the use of its Galaxy flagship line of phones to make remittances and offline payments and monitor the behavior of these transactions. A Samsung officer told The Korea Times:

Will it be possible to conduct payments via mobile phones using the digital currency with no internet availability, or to send CBDC remittances to other mobile phones or to other connected bank accounts, are the two core points that Samsung is looking at.

Several central banks around the world are now experimenting with central bank digital currencies, as private alternatives like stablecoins and fintech begin to take root in more and more of the payments market. The People’s Bank of China already has a very advanced digital currency project that is circulating and being used in certain regions of the country.

Other countries have gone the other way, adopting existent cryptocurrencies as legal tender. This is the case of El Salvador, which issued a law making bitcoin legal tender, hoping to infuse its economy with more dynamic movements and avoid problems with inflation.
