BCH Merchant Directories Show 4,300 Bitcoin Cash Accepting Businesses in 2020

Businesses around the world continue to adopt bitcoin cash (BCH) and in 2020 merchant acceptance continues to grow. Tallying up all the companies that accept BCH listed on sites like Green Pages, Map.Bitcoin.com, Acceptbitcoin.cash, and Anypay shows there’s more than 4,300 BCH supporting merchants worldwide.

4,392 Bitcoin Cash Accepting Merchants

For over two and a half years, BCH proponents have been relentlessly promoting merchant adoption throughout the world. On Sunday the aggregate total of all merchants that accept BCH is approximately 4,392. Websites that display merchant data include Acceptbitcoin.cash, Green Pages, Anypay, and Map.Bitcoin.com. This week, according to the Reddit user u/neonwasteland, 53 new merchants were added. The Reddit account updates the BCH community every week with an adoption thread called “Merchant Monday – Because Bitcoin was meant to be spent.”

Map.Bitcoin.com‘s merchant directory shows 1,894 brick-and-mortar BCH merchants.

Neonwasteland obtained merchant data from three different websites and explained that Acceptbitcoin.cash has approximately 1,140 online merchants listed. Map.Bitcoin.com (formally Marco Coino) indicates there are 1,894 brick-and-mortar merchants, “which is 52 more than last week,” Neonwasteland noted. “You can find 1,203 merchants of all types on Green Pages, which is one more than last week,” the BCH enthusiast remarked.

Further, after tallying up all the merchants from the three sites and adding the 155 Anypay merchants worldwide, there’s around 4,392 bitcoin cash accepting merchants. With the payment processor Bitpay’s merchant list, the aggregate number grows even larger.

High Concentrations of BCH Merchants and Crypto-Acceptance-per-Capita

Map.Bitcoin.com’s merchant directory shows there are large concentrations of BCH merchants in certain regions around the globe. The U.S. and South America capture around 716 BCH-accepting brick-and-mortar businesses. With Gocrypto locations swarming Croatia and Slovenia, Map.Bitcoin.com indicates there’s more than 505 BCH-accepting merchants between both regions.

Slovenia has the most BCH-accepting physical locations worldwide.

Gocrypto has around 620 locations to date and people can make purchases via the Bitcoin.com Wallet and Elly app. Another dense region of BCH acceptance includes Australia and the upper region of North Queensland as there’s around 208 merchants in the whole country. Another country with a bunch of bitcoin cash retail acceptance in Japan with roughly 90 merchants according to Map.Bitcoin.com.

Australia and specifically Bitcoin Cash City in North Queensland has a dense population of physical businesses that accept bitcoin cash.

For BCH supporters, 2020’s goals are no different than the years prior and spreading merchant adoption is very important to community members. The libertarian enclave and “crypto mecca” in Keene continues to spread crypto adoption as well, as Ian Freeman from Free Talk Live told the BCH community that Keene’s merchant acceptance is growing robust. Keene has a high concentration of crypto acceptance per-capita and merchants accept coins like dash and bitcoin cash via the Anypay payment processor.

The crypto payment processor Anypay has around 155 merchants. Many merchants in the “crypto mecca” of Keene leverage Anypay’s services.

On Friday, Free Talk Live cohost Freeman wrote: “The Keene area now has three additional local businesses that are accepting cryptocurrency for their services [and] all three are mobile businesses and will travel to their customers. [The businesses] were all added to the local Coinmap in the last month.” The Keene resident added:

That brings the already very high concentration of businesses accepting crypto to an all-new level, keeping Keene in the top tier of cities globally that are high in crypto-acceptance-per-capita.

Overall, BCH supporters are pleased with the level of adoption that’s taking place and many believe there is much more to come throughout the year. For instance, George Donnelly from the BCH LATM initiative plans to leverage BCH to create a “viral/feedback-loop mass adoption system.” Other Bitcoin Cash supporters are using Simple Ledger Protocol (SLP) tokens as well to promote onchain use and BCH adoption in general. With BCH adoption continuing to grow during the first month of 2020 it should be interesting to see how many merchants are onboarded by the year’s end.

Keene New Hampshire Is Not Only a Libertarian Enclave – It’s Also a Crypto Mecca

06/09/2019 by Idelto Editor

Over the last few months, there’s been a lot of attention directed toward destinations like Slovenia, North Queensland, Japan, and Venezuela which capture the largest number of bitcoin cash merchants worldwide. Another region that’s seen an influx of BCH adoption is Keene, New Hampshire, a place that’s widely known for its lack of taxation, and the growing number of libertarian residents. With a city population of around 23,000, there are 15 BCH-accepting businesses providing goods and services for bitcoin cash.

Keene New Hampshire: The Free State Project’s Crypto Mecca

New Hampshire is well known for having a large number of libertarian residents since the Free State Project (FSP) started a movement of political migration in 2001 in the low-population New England state. Libertarians in the region promote free markets, stand against war, and are either completely anti-state (anarchism) or believe in a very limited government (minarchism). Many of these activists who migrated to New Hampshire are strewn across the state but there are dense regions of libertarian proponents in places like Keene, Portsmouth, and Manchester. Due to the vast amount of free market believers, there’s a slew of businesses in places like Keene that accept digital currencies like bitcoin cash. The liberty loving blog, Free Keene, revealed that the Monadnock Decentralized Currency Network managed to persuade a bunch of mom-n-pop shops to accept cryptocurrencies over the years.

New Hampshire is considered a crypto mecca and is home to thousands of libertarians. Members of the Free State are against wars and interventionism, they are believers in free market capitalism, and many members suggest that governments should not be as powerful as they are today. Some Free State residents do not believe in government at all.

In fact, throughout the lifetime of the Free State’s activism spent bolstering the concepts of liberty and voluntaryism, the people living there have created a cryptocurrency mecca. Free Keene blog author, Ian Freeman (also the co-host of Free Talk Live) explained on Sep. 3 that last week, two well-known and busy convenience stores now accept a variety of digital assets including bitcoin cash. My Campus Convenience (Campco) store will compete with Corner News which has been accepting crypto since 2013. Keene has a wide variety of digital currency-accepting businesses and lots of them use the Anypay payment processor.

Other businesses that have adopted bitcoin cash include a bar called the Thirsty Owl, Dr. Drower Dentistry, Curry Indian Restaurant, a hair salon, and vape shop. Freeman details that according to data stemming from the Anypay and Marco Coino merchant map there are 15 bitcoin cash-accepting businesses in the region. This works out as a ratio of “one business for every 1,533 people,” Freeman explained. The Anypay merchant map not only shows people where crypto merchants are located, but also displays when someone purchases something with cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin Radio Ads, Crypto Tips, and Educational Resources at the Bitcoin Embassy New Hampshire

The Bitcoin Embassy New Hampshire located in Keene is also well known for its Bitcoin radio advertisements that promote the benefits of cryptocurrencies and free markets. Starting in 2016, the commercials were syndicated on “The Peak” (101.9 WKKN-FM Keene, 100.7 WTHK-FM Wilmington, VT, and 104.7 W284AB Jamaica, VT) seven days a week from 3pm-6am EDT. “Bitcoin is a powerful local currency that can also be used internationally. It’s Keene to buy local, and Bitcoin empowers local business owners to keep more from each sale, rather than sending 3% outside of the area to credit card companies,” the radio ad’s message said.

More recently, due to the frictionless and low network fees on the Bitcoin Cash network, activists in Keene have been opting to use and promote BCH regularly. Last summer, Freeman helped launch a new website called Cryptotip.org that creates cryptocurrency tips from bitcoin cash (BCH) and dash, making it easier for residents to tip people in sound money. At the time, Freeman remarked that lots of Keene residents used an application called Bctip.org but BTC network fees became unsustainable and the platform was basically neutered. So Freeman reached out to the creator who told him the platform was open source and he and Michael Hampton of Ringing Liberty redesigned it to work with bitcoin cash and dash. The cryptocurrency dash has a decent-sized following in Keene too and many Dash supporters live in the FSP region.

Cryptotip.org lets people print Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Dash (DASH) tips. Cryptotip is a collaboration between Shire Free Church and Ringing Liberty.

The month prior, in July, the Free Keene blog explained that longtime readers of the blog understood that “Keene and Portsmouth, New Hampshire are two hotspots in the world of cryptocurrency.” “Through real-life crypto usage is not all about delicious handmade pizza, BBQ, Indian food, burgers, or alcoholic beverages that you can buy with crypto in downtown Keene, it’s also about products and services.” When the BCH chain turned two years old on August 1, Free Keene’s Chris Rietmann held a presentation and discussion at the Bitcoin Embassy New Hampshire about the last two years of the Bitcoin Cash network. Rietmann’s two-year BCH retrospective goes into great detail about the scaling debate and why the Bitcoin Cash network is here and thriving today.

Alongside being a crypto mecca, Keene and New Hampshire also have a lot more to offer to people who are interested in libertarianism and plan to join the ongoing NH Freedom Migration.

Free Talk Live and Friends Raise $80K in Crypto for Ugandan Orphanage

25/03/2019 by Idelto Editor

On Monday, the independently syndicated radio broadcast Free Talk Live (FTL) announced that the organization, along with a group of businesses and FTL listeners, had raised $45,000 in cryptocurrencies to construct an orphanage in Uganda. The initiative also raised another $35,000 in crypto to purchase the land for the orphanage within the small African village.

$80K in Crypto Raised

Cryptocurrencies and philanthropy go hand in hand and on March 25, the Free Talk Live radio show announced the team had raised a total of $80,000 in digital currencies to purchase land in Uganda and build an orphanage on the site. FTL also had matching contributors who helped the crowdfunding initiative including organizations like Cell411, Bitcoin.com, and the Shire Free Church.

The land purchase and orphanage construction will help the small village self-sustain and the residents will be able to dedicate more energy to things like growing crops and raising livestock. The orphanage construction goal was also led by The Foundation of Hope Uganda and one of the foundation’s ministers, Ndifuna Johnson.

According to FTL, the radio show’s listeners also participated in the funding process using the radio program’s cryptocurrency tip jar, which accepts DASH, BTC, BCH and the ability to donate with other coins using Shapeshift. FTL airs live, seven nights a week from 7-10 p.m. EST on nearly 200 radio stations. Co-host Mark Edge believes the initiative shows the true power of cryptocurrency crowdfunding. Moreover, Edge thinks that giving the Uganda village a helping hand helps them discover better opportunities.

“All I want here is for young people to have the opportunity to build a better life for themselves,” Edge explained. “Education is important and you can’t have human freedom without humans and these kids need food. This is a way for these kids to get it — this is a better plan — Give them a fishing rod and let them catch their own fish.”

Villagers Build Thousands of Clay Blocks in Anticipation

FTL first heard about the foundation in Uganda when Ndifuna Johnson contacted Edge about the orphanage. Not long after the first encounter and discussions with a local preacher, Kamua Saul, Edge thought it was a worthwhile project to pursue further. According to the radio host, the villagers crafted thousands of clay blocks in anticipation of the orphanage. “They did it piece by piece, fist the foundation, walls, second floor — Bit by bit, over time. It looks great and can fit 40 kids. It also functions as a sort of community center for all the children in the village,” Edge detailed.

According to FTL and the foundation, the villagers are in the process of securing the land using the funds provided by FTL donors and associated sponsors. The FTL host also noted that there’s often a misconception among libertarians in regard to helping people in need and this project has shown that “nothing could be further from the truth.” The news also follows the peer-to-peer cryptocurrency exchange Paxful’s mission in Rwanda, which helped fund two schools in the region. The #Builtwithbitcoin initiative raised over $100,000 of BTC, BCH, ETH, LTC, and DASH for the construction. The last facility Paxful helped fund and develop allowed for six classrooms, bathroom stalls, a cafeteria and a new water well system. The New Hampshire radio show’s latest focus on helping the orphanage in Uganda proves once again that cryptocurrencies are extremely well suited for spreading economic freedom through philanthropy.

Free Keene Activists Launch Tip-Card Creator Called Cryptotip.org

Free Keene Activists Launch Tip-Card Creator Called Cryptotip.org

New Hampshire is well known for its large amounts of libertarian residents and many people consider it the ‘free state’ among all the other states in the US due to its freedom promoting activism. Moreover, cryptocurrencies are extremely popular in the area as there are many digital-currency-accepting establishments and BTMs in the region. This week the folks from the organization Free Keene launched a new website that creates cryptocurrency tips from bitcoin cash (BCH) and dash, making it easier for residents to tip people in sound money.

Free Keene Activists Launch Tip-Card Creator Called Cryptotip.orgLots of people from the free State of New Hampshire are big fans of the cryptocurrency revolution and believe that digital currencies can help separate money from the state. Last month news.Bitcoin.com reported on the many mom-n-pop shops in New Hampshire who are starting to accept cryptocurrencies thanks to the Free Keene crew. The organization managed to onboard a dentist, Indian restaurant, hair salon, and vape shop which joined the many businesses already accepting cryptocurrencies in the Keene area. Another thing free staters like to do is tip people in sound money by using tips in silver or cryptocurrencies as opposed to tipping people in fiat. Lots of Keene residents use to utilize a website called Bctip.org but when BTC fees went through the roof in December the platform stagnated.

So the host of the show Free Talk Live, Ian Freeman, reached out to the creator of Bctip.org because he was once an advertiser on the radio program. Freeman asked if he would integrate other cryptocurrencies and he said no but explained the website was open source. So Freeman partnered with Michael Hampton of Ringing Liberty who programmed a whole new tipping site from scratch but the platform works for bitcoin cash (BCH) and dash. The new application called Cryptotip.org did a small soft launch in public beta earlier in the year with just dash integration and now the site is live with bitcoin cash as the default option when creating new tips.

Basically, the cards are printed business card-sized tips that can be redeemed by anyone. Users just visit Cryptotip.org to created a swathe of tips in any USD value. International visitors can make tips in GBP, EUR, RUB, JPY and other national currencies. After choosing the desired cryptocurrency to fund the tips, simply add a refund address and proceed to print them out. Recipients visit a unique URL on their tip and they will be given instructions on how to use the cryptocurrency so they can download a wallet to redeem the funds they received. Further the tip card creators can add an expiration to the tip and if it goes unclaimed the funds will be sent back.

News.Bitcoin.com spoke with Ian Freeman about the launch of Cryptotip.org and he says he’s thrilled to see ideas like these spread among the community.

Cryptotip respects your real-life prospect’s time — The people we tip in life are busy, but they all like money,” Freeman explains to news.Bitcoin.com. “A server at a restaurant probably doesn’t have time to listen to a pitch about crypto — they have tables to wait on — When you leave a Cryptotip in addition to a good cash tip, they’ll be more likely to look at it.”

If they throw it away, your bitcoin cash (or dash) will come back to you after the expiration, so there’s no risk — Getting busy people’s attention is hard and Cryptotip makes it so much easier.

New Bitcoin-Only Shop Open in New Hampshire

06/04/2018 by Idelto Editor

Free State Bitcoin Shoppe is Open in New Hampshire

Derrick J. Freeman and Steven Zeiler founded what they claim is the first crypto-only brick and mortar retail establishment in the US, the Free State Bitcoin Shoppe. Visitors pay for merchandise with cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. If they don’t have cryptocurrency, the store clerk helps them download and fund their first wallet. They checkout using an Ipad in a Square stand running New Hampshire-based free point-of-sale software Anypay. News.Bitcoin.com caught up with Mr. Freeman for an exclusive interview.

Bitcoin Shoppe is Crypto-Only

Portsmouth, New Hampshire hasn’t been widely thought to be a hotbed of crypto activity. It just might be, and it probably has something to do with the Free State Project (FSP). Yale doctoral student Jason Sorens basically wrote about a secessionist movement of the most personal sort. It wound up evolving into asking 20,000 freedom-loving people to build a political force in the state of New Hampshire, the “Live Free or Die” state. “A large portion of the people who moved to New Hampshire in search of freedom are bitcoin users,” Derrick J. Freeman explained. “That’s because they know about the Federal Reserve. Once you know about that, and you know there’s an alternative, it’s pretty hard to reconcile your personal responsibility for its perpetuation.”

Free State Bitcoin Shoppe is Open in New Hampshire

Mr. Freeman, a well-known figure in the FSP, continues, “Cryptocurrencies affords us the opportunity to not just withdraw our support for values we detest, but to actively support coins whose communities actively embrace certain values we share. It’s amazing, and anyone not yet benefiting from participation in these communities is missing out.”

Founded in the Summer of last year, the Free State Bitcoin Shoppe is open seven days a week. Though it’s obviously a profit-making enterprise, Mr. Freeman notes it also serves as an educational platform. “The number one thing we sell is the ‘Bitcoin 101’ class at the Blockchain Institute where people learn how to get a bitcoin wallet, how to send and receive bitcoin, and how to backup their money safely. We also sell bitcoin watches, bitcoin mugs, bitcoin pint glasses, hardware wallets, bitcoin t-shirts, bitcoin socks, bitcoin books, silver rounds, dvds, enigma machines, books about programming and economics.”

Free State Bitcoin Shoppe is Open in New Hampshire

The importance of having a real-world, flesh and blood place where the curious can come and ask questions, take a test spin in this new space, is badly needed, Mr. Freeman urges. “They’ve all heard about it from the news, or a friend, coworker, or family member, and they’re curious. They want to know, ‘Is this thing real? Like, are people actually using it?’ And we get the pleasure of pointing them to our huge map on the wall with flags sticking out at every one of 22 locations that currently accept bitcoin in this town of 22,000. We designed and printed pamphlets that we encourage people to take from a box on our front door. It explains how to get a wallet (of course we recommend Bitcoin.com wallet right at the top), and a map of the World Famous Bitcoin Tour of Portsmouth (http://WorldFamousBitcoinTour.com).”

An Eager Bitcoin Evangelist

As an activist and content producer in the liberty world, Mr. Freeman received a tip in bitcoin after hosting a popular radio program, Free Talk Live. It was his introduction to the rabbit hole that is crypto. “I loved this new kind of money,” he stresses. “I loved that it was a digital balance on my screen. I liked that I had a record of all the transactions in the network. I liked that it ran like a bittorrent on my computer — always updating the ledger with all the other nodes on the network. I liked that I could participate in mining by buying some equipment and configuring it to join the network of miners. I liked that this new kind of money was being circulated among my friends. I liked that it afforded me the opportunity to use a money that wasn’t created and controlled by the Federal Reserve. I like that it empowers people like me to opt for a more peaceful world by withdrawing support for empire-building and endless wars.”

Free State Bitcoin Shoppe is Open in New Hampshire

News.Bitcoin.com asked how the immediate community has received the Shoppe. “They love it. We’ve became fast friends with dozens of businesses who we’ve helped accept cryptocurrency. We’ve sponsored local theater on multiple occasions as patrons of the arts. One of our neighboring shoppes and one of Portsmouth’s most beloved stores, Pickwick’s Mercantile, gave us the idea to coin Portsmouth as ‘Bitcoin Village.’ We regularly host popular meetups where people come to level up their bitcoin knowledge and grow the network of bitcoin users and businesses. Even the local government has been warm and welcoming: a city councillor was one of our earliest customers, the police have politely checked in when they saw us moving store furniture at night, and just yesterday the parking enforcer popped into the Shoppe to let me know I’d forgotten to put my ticket on the dash. It’s that kind of quaint New England town. We love our neighbors and aim to make them proud,” Mr. Freeman responded eagerly.
