These Maps Will Help You Locate Merchants Ready to Accept Your Cryptocurrency

Getting into Bitcoin is a first step many have already taken, and with the generally positive start of 2020, more are likely to make the move. But then there’s the question of what to do with your coins. Regardless of how you obtained them – through purchase, faucet, airdrop, fork, business, or salary — it’s an important point to consider. Luckily, options to spend your cryptocurrency have been increasing. Here’s how to find places that accept decentralized digital money using online maps.

Merchant Maps Show You Where to Spend Your Bitcoin

Interactive online maps are the most intuitive way to find anything these days, including merchants that are willing to take your crypto for whatever they sell. And while Google Maps can help you locate a few businesses dealing with cryptocurrencies near you, other platforms are far more specialized.

Coinmap.org is one of them, as its website allows crypto companies to share their coordinates for free. The map displays around 16,000 venues around the world that accept cryptocurrency payments. Users can filter these entries by multiple categories such as shopping, café, food, grocery, lodging, transport, sports, and nightlife. It will also show you ATMs where you can withdraw digital coins.

The website is easy to use. Filtering options are displayed on the left side of the map. If you permit your browser to track your location, the map will be centered on it and will offer you nearby crypto merchants. You can also zoom in on a particular city or district and check the tab that shows all merchants in the same area. Clicking on an entry will give you more details about the place, and allow you to visit its website or explore the surroundings in Google’s Street View.

While Coinmap lists businesses processing payments in various coins, other platforms are focusing on merchants that accept specific cryptocurrencies. These can be coins that have established themselves as popular investments and others that are valued for the utility they bring to electronic payments, whether with fast and inexpensive transactions or through other features that facilitate genuine peer-to-peer interaction.

Coin-Specific Platforms Focus on Merchants Accepting Payment-Friendly Cryptocurrencies

Bitcoinmap.cash is a community project spreading the word about restaurants, bars, supermarkets, hotels, and other places that mostly take bitcoin cash (BCH) and dash, but many of the featured locations accept bitcoin core (BTC) as well. It has a desktop version of its map and a mobile application you can download and install. Bitcoinmap.cash provides you with basic information about the place you are interested in, including offered discounts for crypto payments. It also lets you check the location using Google Maps.

Bitcoin.com’s offering in the genre, Bitcoin Cash Map, updates users about the growing number of locations accepting BCH. It currently lists almost 2,000 stores across the globe where you can pay with bitcoin cash. The map, which is also available as a mobile app, can be used to obtain contact information for the merchants and links to their websites. Green Pages is another BCH-focused option which allows you to narrow the search to stores where, besides bitcoin cash, you can also pay with four other major cryptocurrencies – BTC, ETH, DASH and XMR.

A different approach to finding crypto-friendly merchants is to check payment processors that track their clients’ activity. For instance, point-of-sale provider Anypay maintains a map showing businesses using its services and other locations that accept cryptocurrencies. The platform supports a number of coins including BCH, BTC, LTC, DASH, DOGE, ZEC, XRP, and ZEN. Locations are displayed in different colors indicating when the last payment took place so that you know which stores process crypto payments regularly. Clicking on a marker also gives you information about that business, its address and accepted currencies.

Explore Merchant Directories That Maintain Online Maps

Coppay is another company that allows users to accept cryptocurrency payments through instant conversion to fiat. It has a map on its website that shows the physical locations where the payment system is being used. Copay provides services mainly to merchants based in the Baltic countries of Latvia and Lithuania, although the company is working to expand to other markets and has already entered Portugal. Salamantex is a payment solution provider that has its own merchant map. Most of its clients are based in Austria, with a couple of stores in Croatia and Malta.

There are other sources focusing on a specific region. Maltamap, for example, will suggest places where you can spend bitcoin in the Mediterranean nation. The country has branded itself as “The Blockchain Island” in the past few years, after adopting crypto-friendly legislation and welcoming many crypto companies to its shores. A growing number of businesses in Malta accept cryptocurrencies including hotels, real estate companies, auto dealers, and various other service providers.

Specialized merchant directories offer another opportunity to explore cryptocurrency-accepting locations. Аcceptcryptoz lists over 800 such places in several categories including food and drinks, hotels and lodging, shops and markets, arts and entertainment, other services, and even crypto ATMs. Clicking the tab of any of these will take you to the category’s page where you’ll find a map showing you the contacts of the merchants and a list with more details about each one of them on the left side of the screen. These businesses accept one or more of eight supported coins and tokens including major cryptocurrencies.

BCH Merchant Directories Show 4,300 Bitcoin Cash Accepting Businesses in 2020

Businesses around the world continue to adopt bitcoin cash (BCH) and in 2020 merchant acceptance continues to grow. Tallying up all the companies that accept BCH listed on sites like Green Pages, Map.Bitcoin.com, Acceptbitcoin.cash, and Anypay shows there’s more than 4,300 BCH supporting merchants worldwide.

4,392 Bitcoin Cash Accepting Merchants

For over two and a half years, BCH proponents have been relentlessly promoting merchant adoption throughout the world. On Sunday the aggregate total of all merchants that accept BCH is approximately 4,392. Websites that display merchant data include Acceptbitcoin.cash, Green Pages, Anypay, and Map.Bitcoin.com. This week, according to the Reddit user u/neonwasteland, 53 new merchants were added. The Reddit account updates the BCH community every week with an adoption thread called “Merchant Monday – Because Bitcoin was meant to be spent.”

Map.Bitcoin.com‘s merchant directory shows 1,894 brick-and-mortar BCH merchants.

Neonwasteland obtained merchant data from three different websites and explained that Acceptbitcoin.cash has approximately 1,140 online merchants listed. Map.Bitcoin.com (formally Marco Coino) indicates there are 1,894 brick-and-mortar merchants, “which is 52 more than last week,” Neonwasteland noted. “You can find 1,203 merchants of all types on Green Pages, which is one more than last week,” the BCH enthusiast remarked.

Further, after tallying up all the merchants from the three sites and adding the 155 Anypay merchants worldwide, there’s around 4,392 bitcoin cash accepting merchants. With the payment processor Bitpay’s merchant list, the aggregate number grows even larger.

High Concentrations of BCH Merchants and Crypto-Acceptance-per-Capita

Map.Bitcoin.com’s merchant directory shows there are large concentrations of BCH merchants in certain regions around the globe. The U.S. and South America capture around 716 BCH-accepting brick-and-mortar businesses. With Gocrypto locations swarming Croatia and Slovenia, Map.Bitcoin.com indicates there’s more than 505 BCH-accepting merchants between both regions.

Slovenia has the most BCH-accepting physical locations worldwide.

Gocrypto has around 620 locations to date and people can make purchases via the Bitcoin.com Wallet and Elly app. Another dense region of BCH acceptance includes Australia and the upper region of North Queensland as there’s around 208 merchants in the whole country. Another country with a bunch of bitcoin cash retail acceptance in Japan with roughly 90 merchants according to Map.Bitcoin.com.

Australia and specifically Bitcoin Cash City in North Queensland has a dense population of physical businesses that accept bitcoin cash.

For BCH supporters, 2020’s goals are no different than the years prior and spreading merchant adoption is very important to community members. The libertarian enclave and “crypto mecca” in Keene continues to spread crypto adoption as well, as Ian Freeman from Free Talk Live told the BCH community that Keene’s merchant acceptance is growing robust. Keene has a high concentration of crypto acceptance per-capita and merchants accept coins like dash and bitcoin cash via the Anypay payment processor.

The crypto payment processor Anypay has around 155 merchants. Many merchants in the “crypto mecca” of Keene leverage Anypay’s services.

On Friday, Free Talk Live cohost Freeman wrote: “The Keene area now has three additional local businesses that are accepting cryptocurrency for their services [and] all three are mobile businesses and will travel to their customers. [The businesses] were all added to the local Coinmap in the last month.” The Keene resident added:

That brings the already very high concentration of businesses accepting crypto to an all-new level, keeping Keene in the top tier of cities globally that are high in crypto-acceptance-per-capita.

Overall, BCH supporters are pleased with the level of adoption that’s taking place and many believe there is much more to come throughout the year. For instance, George Donnelly from the BCH LATM initiative plans to leverage BCH to create a “viral/feedback-loop mass adoption system.” Other Bitcoin Cash supporters are using Simple Ledger Protocol (SLP) tokens as well to promote onchain use and BCH adoption in general. With BCH adoption continuing to grow during the first month of 2020 it should be interesting to see how many merchants are onboarded by the year’s end.

BCH News Roundup: Transactions Spike, Cashaddr Support, and a Developer Congress

The last seven days have been busy within the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem with a slew of announcements and developments. Kraken exchange recently added the BCH-based Cashaddr address format and Coinbase open-sourced a utility that makes it easy to convert between Base58 and Cashaddr addresses. Additionally, the New Hampshire-based Anypay payment processor is bolstering merchant adoption by offering 10% bitcoin cashback for purchases through their point of sale services.

Bitcoin Cash Markets Hold Steady While Transactions Per Day Keep Rising

In the past week, the BCH market capitalization ($5.55 billion) has surpassed LTC but BCH markets are down roughly 7.8% during this period. Each BCH is swapping for $309 per coin and there’s around $1.19 billion in global bitcoin cash volume. The top exchanges trading the most BCH on Saturday, August 10 include Coinbene, Digifinex, Hitbtc, Bibox, and Okex. Right now the top trading pairs swapped against BCH are USDT (52%), BTC (28%), USD (8.7%), ETH (6.8%), and KRW (2%).

One of the biggest metrics rising over the last few weeks for BCH has been the number of daily transactions. BCH miners have been processing an average of 35-40,000 transactions (txn) per day and there have been multiple 24-hour periods above 60,000 txn per day. The influx of daily transactions is likely attributed to the Simple Ledger Protocol (SLP) tokens which have seen significant usage in recent weeks.

Kraken Adds Cashaddr and Coinbase Open Sources a Cashaddr Utility

On August 8, the San Francisco-based Kraken exchange revealed that the trading platform is switching over to BCH Cashaddr-based addresses for all deposits starting August 15th. The cryptocurrency ecosystem transitioning from the legacy address format to the Cashaddr format is very important to the BCH ecosystem. The Cashaddr address system was deployed on January 14, 2018, and since then many third-party service providers have adopted the format. Bitcoin ABC lead developer Amaury Séchet explained on Thursday that he had contacted Kraken a few weeks ago and asked them to switch to Cashaddr. “I am happy to see Kraken implement this change — It benefits users by helping them avoid mistakes when depositing funds,” Séchet remarked.

Kraken is switching to CashAddr address format for BCH deposits. This is a win for #BitcoinCash users.

Thank you @krakenfx for the high-quality #BCH support! https://t.co/gj1ZuSC0qH

— Bitcoin ABC (@Bitcoin_ABC) August 8, 2019

In addition to Kraken adding the Cashaddr format, software engineer Josh Ellithorpe and Coinbase open-sourced a utility to convert between base58 and Cashaddr BCH addresses. The news was welcomed by the BCH community and people hope the utility introduced by Coinbase and Ellithorpe will bring more visibility to the Cashaddr format. Electron Cash developer Calin Culianu (Nilac the grim) explained that there’s open source code for Cashaddr in Python, JS, C++, Go, and more as well.

Anypay Offers BCH Cashback Promo

On Friday the crypto payment processing startup Anypay Global announced a 10% BCH back bonus for people spending bitcoin cash using the company’s system. The following day Reddit user u/Bitcointippingpoint revealed that there are 30 merchants in New Hampshire that accept crypto through Anypay and 27 of these retailers accept bitcoin cash. New Hampshire is known as the “Free State” for its large number of libertarian residents.

— Anypay (@Anypay_) August 8, 2019

Seven of the BCH merchants are located in Keene, says Bitcointippingpoint and another six BCH-accepting merchants are located in Portsmouth. “14 of the 30 have accepted a payment within the last week,” the Reddit user announced. “Can attest to using this at the Fresh Press in Portsmouth, New Hampshire — It’s pretty sweet,” explained another Reddit user discussing the 10% BCH cashback promotion for purchases through Anypay’s point-of-sale. Anypay also provides a map of all the crypto accepting merchants

Developer Tendo Pein Reveals Spending Constraints With OP_Checkdatasig

This week the creator of the BCH-based programming language called Spedn wrote a blog post on Honest.cash which detailed some interesting schemes that can be developed using the opcode OP_Chechdatasig. On August 8, Tendo Pein told the BCH development community that one of the limitations of BCH Script was that you can only specify if one can spend the coin. However, people assumed there was no way of adding spending constraints but Pein shows how it’s now possible. Pein shows three types of constraints like a simple scheme like a Pay to Public Key Hash. Then the developer shows some more complex ideas that can be achieved and uses the Spedn language to show the benefits more clearly. During the end of the post which shows another example of a spending constraint dubbed “the fanciest,” Pein demonstrates how OP_Return tokens could be miner enforceable. This particular demonstration could make OP_Return tokens built on top of the chain stronger by backing them with the network’s security.

Txhighway Visualizer Adds New Features

With the number of daily transactions picking up on the BCH chain, many supporters noticed a few issues with the transaction visualizer Txhighway.com. Since then the site’s maintainer fixed the website’s Websockets and updated the page. The Txhighway website shows a large 32-lane highway for the Bitcoin Cash network while the Bitcoin Core (BTC) network has two lanes available and during periods of BTC congestion the website gives a unique perspective of the problem. Now there’s new logos, no reference to older BSV projects, and there’s now a Badger button available for donations. Additionally, with the popularity of SLP tokens on the rise, the highway also shows Spice token transactions on the move as well.

Bitcoin Cash City Conference and the BCH Developer Congress

Overall, the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem and its participants continue to truck forward after celebrating the recent two-year anniversary of BCH. In addition to the anniversary celebrations, BCH supporters are gearing up for the Bitcoin Cash City two-day conference next month in North Queensland, Australia. On August 8, Cointext founder Vin Armani announced an open call to all the developers who work on BCH infrastructure and provide BCH products and services to attend the first “Developer Congress.”

This is an open call for developers of products and services that support #BitcoinCash to attend the first Bitcoin Cash Developer Congress, taking place in Australia from September 3rd to September 5th.

The BCH developers’ meeting will take place between September 3-5 in coordination with the Bitcoin Cash City conference. This weekend, news.Bitcoin.com spoke with Armani about the event and what will be discussed.

“The Bitcoin Cash Developer Congress is an initiative, sponsored by Bitmain, with the primary purpose of bringing together developers from across the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem to discuss and debate upcoming projects and protocols which will be put into production within the next 12 months,” the Cointext founder explained.

Local BCH Venue Opens as Localbitcoins Removes In-Person Cash Trades

This week’s show discuses the successful opening of Local.Bitcoin.com, a privacy-focused peer to peer global marketplace for trading bitcoin cash (BCH). Over 11,000 people have signed up to the service and already created more than 3,000 offers since the platform’s official June 4 launch date. The launch couldn’t come at a better time for many cryptocurrency traders who prefer to transact in-person for cash as Localbitcoins just removed that option a few days ago.

The weekly update also covers how the bitcoin cash community is advancing in its efforts to support developers with a fundraiser whose contributions are donated to Bitcoin ABC, Bitcoin Unlimited, BCHD, and Bcash. The campaign is closing in on the 15% milestone out of an initial goal of raising 800 BCH by Aug. 1, 2019.

Other developments in the bitcoin cash ecosystem mentioned include the non-custodial Badger Wallet being made available for iOS mobile devices, a recently released browser extension that enhances bitcoin cash addresses for easy tipping, decentralized social network system Memo adding support for creating SLP tokens, and Monarch Wallet adding SLP support for users on both iOS and Android devices. Anypay and Cointext Launch BCH-Powered Remittance Solution for Merchants

05/06/2019 by Idelto Editor

Anypay and Cointext Launch a BCH-Powered Remittance Solution for Merchants

On June 3, crypto startups Anypay and Cointext debuted a global remittance application for independent merchants. The new payment solution utilizes bitcoin cash (BCH) and allows anyone from anywhere to send funds faster and cheaper than traditional remittance platforms.

The New Anypay and Cointext Remittance Solution Aids Capital Mobility

The value of remittances being sent overseas and across borders is greater than ever and Anypay.global has teamed up with Cointext.io to make cross-border payments easier. For less than a U.S. penny per transaction, bitcoin cash can be easily transferred across the globe in a permissionless manner. Both startups believe that cross-border, crypto remittance can be a thousand times cheaper than traditional banks, forex firms, and even alternative financial transfer operations. When Anypay and Cointext revealed the latest partnership and the launch of the new remittance platform, Cointext founder Vin Armani detailed how low cost, decentralized payment networks like bitcoin cash can transform the remittance industry.

Anypay and Cointext Launch BCH-Powered Remittance Solution for Merchants

“One of the most overlooked prerequisites for the spread of economic prosperity and individual sovereignty is capital mobility — So often, when we see communities lifted from poverty it is due to an influx of outside capital, making an investment or purchasing goods and services from productive individuals,” Armani told news.Bitcoin.com after the announcement. “Entrepreneurs who have brilliant solutions to pressing problems don’t just come from the developed world.” Armani added:

Enabling money to flow, from any human on the planet to any other human on the planet, instantly and at incredibly low cost, is the great promise of Bitcoin. Bitcoin Cash enables that promise to still be realized. I know that this remittance platform with Anypay and Cointext is just the first glimpse of what will become a global movement of individuals taking back their financial sovereignty and connecting a global community dedicated to increasing human flourishing.

Connecting Cross-Border Payments to Friends and Family, No Matter the Distance

Essentially Cointext users can send any amount of BCH to a mobile phone in 42 countries by text message. If an individual wants to utilize the Cointext and Anypay remittance solution, all they would have to do is visit an Anypay.global merchant and request a specific amount of cash. Then the merchant can generate an Anypay invoice which will contain a five-digit short code specifically designed for Cointext users. After that, when the shopkeeper’s invoice is paid by the person sending funds using Cointext, the vendor can hand the cash to the recipient. Anypay cofounder Steven Zeiler said that he was thrilled to launch an application that transcends borders for far less than what today’s remittance incumbents charge.

“Anypay connects friends and family no matter the distance,” said Zeiler. “Instantly receive money from anywhere for free — It’s easy.

Anypay and Cointext Launch BCH-Powered Remittance Solution for Merchants
“International remittance has always been one of Bitcoin’s most promising applications,” Cointext founder Vin Armani explained. “Until now, there hasn’t been a user experience simple to use even for someone’s grandmother who lives in a village in the ‘old country’.”

BCH evangelist ‘Käptn Kook’ published a video that demonstrates just how easy the Cointext and Anypay.global remittance solution can be with a man named Mohammed Mustapha Yakubu who lives in Accra, Ghana. Mohammed’s brother Lamin resides in Heidelberg, Germany and Mohammed requested cash from a local vendor and relayed the shortcode to his brother on a phone call. Lamin simply paid the invoice using the Cointext shortcode and the merchant gave Mohammed the cash in just a few minutes. “What just happened here is Mohammed bought cash in Ghana and he did it by having his friend in Germany send cryptocurrency to the store,” remarked Anypay cofounder Derrick Freeman.

The Bitcoin Cash (BCH) community was pleased to hear about the partnership between Anypay and Cointext and the announcement was a top post on the Reddit forum r/btc. A report by the World Bank estimates global remittances are well over half a trillion dollars annually and climbing. Many BCH supporters believe that bitcoin cash can make a significant dent in the $600 billion per year overseas remittance industry. Anypay and Cointext’s solution, alongside the benefits of BCH cross-border transfers, give the end user lower costs and quicker global money payments within minutes.
